GK Update: 21st October, 2015

GK Update:

1. Bank of Baroda join Chillr platform. Bank of Baroda has become the second bank after HDFC Bank to join the Chillr payment platform which enables peer-to-peer payment through a mobile application.  Only those whose banks are integrated with Chillr can use the application for remitting funds. However, customers of any bank can receive funds using Chillr.   It added that utility bill and merchant payments on Chillr app will be enabled for Bank of Baroda customers soon. The Chillr application was developed by Kerala-based start up Mobme Wireless. It was subsequently farmed out into a separate company promoted by Sony Joy, founder and CEO Chillr.

 2. Reliance AMC to acquire Goldman Sachs AMC for Rs 243cr.  In its first ever acquisition, Reliance Capital Asset Management (RCAM) today announced takeover of global giant Goldman Sachs' mutual fund business in India for Rs 243 crore in an all-cash deal as yet another foreign player exits the Rs 13 lakh crore Indian MF market.

3. Snapdeal appointed Anup Vikal as CFO.  E-commerce firm Snapdeal on 20 October 2015 appointed Anup Vikal as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Vikal replaced Aakash Moondhra, who had quit the company in October 2015.

4. Justin Trudeau elected as Canada’s new PM.  Justin Trudeau of Liberal Party has been elected as 23rd Prime Minister of Canada. He is eldest son of Canada’s former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau who was in office for 16 years and led the country till 1984.

5. Reva Khetrapal selected as Lokayukta of Delhi.  Former Delhi High Court judge Reva Khetrapal has been selected as Delhi’s new Lokayukta. The post was lying vacant since 2013 after retired Justice Manmohan Sarin had relinquished office after completing five-year term.

6. Veteran Kannada film-maker K.S.L. Swamy passes away.   Renowned Kannada filmmaker Kikkeri Shamanna Lakshminarayana Swamy (KSL Swamy) passed away in Bengaluru, Karnataka. He was 77. He was popularly known Ravee and was also Kannada film producer, actor and playback singer.

7. AB de Villiers named brand ambassador of MRF.  Tyre manufacturing giant MRF Limited on 20 October 2015 named South African batsman AB de Villiers as its brand ambassador. As per company norms, the association is for a period of three years.

8. Yuki Bhambri is first Indian to enter top 100 since 2010.  Yuki Bhambri on Monday cracked the coveted top-100 bracket by achieving a career-best rank of 99, a reflection of his consistent progress in the last few months.

9. Golf: Anirban Lahiri wins Asian Tour Golfer of the Month award.  Anirban Lahiri added another feather to his already crowded cap by winning the inaugural Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month award. As part of Hilton Worldwide's newest partnership with the region's Tour, the Asian Tour Hilton Golfer of the Month award aims to recognise outstanding efforts of Asian Tour members both at home and abroad.


10. Sehwag retired from all forms of International Cricket, IPL.  Indian cricketer Virender Shewag on 20 October 2015 retired from all forms of international Cricket and Indian Premier League (IPL), Sehwag revealed his decision after signing up to play in 2016 Masters Champions League Twenty20 tournament in Dubai. Masters Champions League, a UAE-based Twenty20 tournament requires its participants to have retired from all international formats.
